DAY 5 BRIEF RECAP -- MORE LATER

We had an early start to our day today. Breakfast at 7:00 (which meant up at 5:30/6:00), on the road at 7:30, drive to 8 mile -- 1 3/4 hrs (not quite the exciting drive last years team had). Our team spent half the day at 8 mile and a return visit to Prickly Pole Primary School. We were given the opportunity to run a 2 hour VBS this morning. Five of our team members this year were there last year -- we all had God moments visiting there.

After our VBS we went to the church we built in 8 mile last year. I almost didn't recognize the place. The outside has been trimmed out and painted, and Javon's mom planted really neat plants and flowers all around the outside of the church, and a few around the altar.

After driving 1 1/2 hrs (Jeff found a short-cut -- more like last years drive ;))We returned to New Vision Children's Home about 4:00, had dinner at 5:00, team meeting at 6:15ish and left for a youth church service at 6:45. We were asked to run the entire service tonight, so Ivelisse Reyes, Liz Newman, Danielle Amato, and Natalie Hagen lead worship -- and did an amazing job. Played the skittles game, danced to shackles -- the entire youth team (Ian, Robert, Austin, Jake, & Trevor included). After that they ran through all 3 skits, 2 people gave testimonies (Great job Ian & Natalie!) and finally Brandon preached. During the altar call one young man (Brian - 19) from New Vision gave his heart to the Lord.

Everything went really well tonight with our planned service. After service one team prayed with a young lady that was feeling ill from the orphanage, and another team was working with another young lady. Her name was Kimberly. Pastor Eric was talking to her while we wait to pray. He found out she has some medical issues -- not feeling well, seizures, etc. He dug a little deeper and found that she was having suicidal thoughts. As we were getting ready to pray, Kim started to not feel well and passed out. She was sent to the hospital with the youth leader from the church. We are waiting to hear how she's doing.

Please keep Kim in your prayers as well as the team and the girls here at the home. Everyone is worried about her.

We are off to 8 mile again in the morning, so pictures won't be posted until late tomorrow or Sunday. Sorry for the delay on the video recaps, the videos are taking forever to render.

Thank you for all your support and prayers! -- Vickie

hello everyone,
I am crying at this point... you all have given your time, talents, and love to others, in turn, giving them to God. What amazing young men and women you are (and you old-er ones are too. haha. love you :)
I'm very proud of all of you. It sounds like you're accomplishing even more than last year, if that's even possible. Finally, I hope you are all growing even closer as a team and when you come home, you will spread the love ane excited ment you have developed. xo

Howdy friends!
First thing is first,
Please show more pictures of Ian. His Sham Wow brothers and sisters are very worried about him. Please tell him the Ficks and Andrea are worried as well. Is he taken hostage? Did he staple gun himself to something?
I'm proud of you, Ian! I just wanted you to get the bass playing/pajama wearing face time you often do not receive.

Praying for more pics and a safe return,
Andrea D.

One more thing...please remind Trevor "Wheels" Hagen, Robert DiPuppo, and "Stone Cold" Austin that they need to fulfill their Medallion Mission to a Jamaican that feels overlooked. And please tell them how proud I am of each of them. They are like a medallion around God's neck. (Yes, Trevor, you're the gold one) Their selfless-ness and courage to do God's work will reap rewards both in themselves and for others, far greater than they can ever know or imagine. All of your 10th grade brothers and sisters at rL applaud you!
Love,
Andrea D.

Hey Jenni,
Sorry I haven't posted in a couple of days..I just got back from the beach. It wasn't the same without you. I was thinking about you the whole time. As soon as I got home I got on here to catch up with everything the team has been doing down there. Can't wait until you get home so you can tell me all that you have been experiencing.
Love and miss you,
mom
